STUDENT INSURANCE
Erasmus students need to pay 187 pesetas in order to have student insurance coverage.
The academic insurance company was created in 1953. Its aim was to deal with certain family and health contingencies which could affect both secondary and higher education students.
To apply for the benefits covered by this insurance, you need to fill in the official forms available from the National Institute of the Social Security. You can also apply for these benefits at its Urban or Regional Agencies, where your queries will also be answered. The application form includes the minimum formal requirements, and must be submitted in the above-mentioned offices.
If you are a foreign student, ask for information at your college or get in contact with us to ascertain whether or not you are considered for insurance coverage in the following cases:
Cooperating Hospitals
HOSPITAL CLÍNICO (Medical College)
CASA DE REPOSO SAN ONOFRE (Psychiatric Hospital)
In case of emergency you must go to the Hospital Clínico or Clínica Universitaria, at its surgery hours. Those hospitals and health centres under the National Health Service, as well as private hospitals, not mentioned above, are not included as cooperating institutions in the school insurance, and, therefore, their use will just entitle the student to receive the refund of the expenses, only in the foreseen cases and with the established rates. These benefits are granted by taking into consideration both personal economic situation and family circumstances of the student. Benefits are granted for: physiotherapy, cobalt-therapy, radio-therapy, radium-therapy, artificial kidney, maxillo-facial surgery.
Health Centres
f the student requires General Practice treatment due to common disease, or to determine the need of specialized care, he/she will be able to go to the following centres. Identity card and certificate of enrolment stating payment of school insurance will be requested.
Insurance coverage is granted depending on the circumstances and characteristics of an accident during a student's habitual activities. The benefits entail comprehensive medical care, free-of-charge prescriptions, stay in health centres or hospitals, surgery, and economic compensation in case or disability or death.
This includes the stay in a health centre, medical treatment and free-of-charge medicines for a maximum in-patient hospital treatment period of 3 years. If the patient's condition does not require staying in a hospital, medical care and medicines will be provided for a maximum period of six-months, with the limitations foreseen for these particular cases. This period may be extended depending on the student's personal and family circumstances.
This includes all the expenses derived from diagnosis, stay in a hospital, medical care, medicines and surgery costs. To be entitled for reimbursement of surgery costs -except for emergencies- acknowledgement of this right should be applied for before a three-month deadline from discharge from hospital. Plastic surgery, oral-facial or dental surgery are not included, except for cases derived from a school accident.
Comprehensive medical care and prescriptions for cases of schizophrenia, toxicomania and severe psychopathologies involving a stay in hospital for a maximum period of one year are covered. This period may be extended for an extra year. The coverage period for cases which do not require in-patient hospital treatment is six months. The same period is applied to those cases which require medical treatment after having stayed in hospital. The coverage period may be extended for an extra 6 months, with the limitations foreseen for these cases (70% refund prescriptions and medical fees according to the insurance rates).
This benefit applies when the head of the family dies, when he/she goes into bankruptcy or when the family economy collapses. If applied for, the student is entitled to receive economic help for the remaining years of the degree. This help is reviewed annually, taking into account the economic situation of the family and the academic situation of the student.
Labour process with comprehensive care is covered. If the student chooses a non-insurance affiliated Maternity Hospital, the expenses will be refunded according to the fees established in the insurance policy. The patient will receive a fixed amount to pay for medical care expenses.
